About Minesweeper

Minesweeper is a brilliant exercise in probability, pattern recognition, and deductive logic. Hidden beneath the gray tiles is a grid of explosive mines, and your only clues are the numbers indicating exactly how many mines are adjacent to a given square. I have always loved the tension of clicking a tile when you are 90% sure it is safe, but there is still a sliver of doubt in your mind. This web version is highly responsive, ensuring that rapid flagging and chord-clicking work exactly as veterans of the Windows 95 version expect them to. It is a fantastic brain-teaser that heavily rewards logical deduction over guesswork.

How to Play

Left-click a tile to reveal it. If it is a mine, you lose instantly! If it is a number, it tells you how many mines touch that specific tile. Right-click to place a red flag on a tile you suspect contains a mine.

Game Features

  • Classic logic-based gameplay
  • Multiple grid sizes (Beginner, Intermediate, Expert)
  • Responsive right-click flagging
  • Timers for speedrunning

Tips and Strategies

1. Start in the corners or edges, as they restrict the number of possible adjacent mines and give you safe starting areas. 2. If a "1" touches only one unrevealed square, that square MUST be a mine. 3. Use "chording" (clicking both mouse buttons on a revealed number) to quickly clear adjacent tiles once you have flagged the correct amount of mines.

"Marcus says: Chording is the secret to playing fast. Once you learn to trust your flags and chord the numbers, your completion times will drop by half. I still play Expert mode trying to break my 120-second record."
